Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey have had similar career trajectories. Both rose to prominence on popular sketch comedy shows before starring in a string of monumentally successful comedy films in the ’90s and well into the 2000s. Both branched out successfully into weirder and more dramatic fare, proving themselves as well-rounded actors, and both continue to maintain a relevant presence on the silver screen today. Adam Sandler’s beloved ’90s goofball classics include the likes of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, the titles of which he combined into a the name of his own production company, Happy Madison Productions, in 1999. For Jim Carrey’s part, it’s hard to argue against the timelessness of The Mask or Dumb and Dumber. It’s probably hard to pick a favorite, but if you absolutely had to, which would you say had the more iconic ’90s run?

Jaws is inarguably a classic, one of the most influential films of all time. Famously, it could have been a very different movie had the director and crew had access to a larger budget and better technology, the shark would have had a lot more screen time. Whether or not this would have ruined the film’s tense atmosphere, we can only speculate upon. Still, there have been plenty of shark attack movies in the wake of Jaws that have had access to such resources, and while none are held in as high regard with the general public as Jaws, it’s hard to argue that there haven’t been iconic moments in other such films. Samuel L. Jackson’s shock death in Deep Blue Sea is one of the most memorable ever put to film. And who could say anything bad about Jason Statham taking on a giant prehistoric shark, essentially with his bare hands, in The Meg? That level of pure unbridled awesomeness is hard to beat. We’ve got a few looks at David Corenswet’s Superman now, and, at least from what I’ve seen, most people seem to enjoy the look. After the first official image, opinions were divided, but I think that was a bad representation. After the set images were released, I believe we have a pretty good idea of what Corenswet’s Superman will look like, and it’s made me even more excited for the 2025 film. What do you think of the new suit? Do you prefer a different look? Are you still upset that Henry Cavill’s version is being left in the DCEU? Will you even be watching the DCU, or are you entirely over superhero cinematic universes?

Today marks two years since the release of Pixar’s Lightyear, and the film’s legacy has largely been defined by being a box office flop and often painted as a safe conventional franchise movie in contrast to the studio’s slate of original films at the time. However, Lightyear is an underrated gem in the Pixar canon that is a unique spin on breathing new life into an IP while also still being a personal film for the filmmaker the same way as Luca or Turning Red. Lightyear is a fun sci-fi action adventure that can be enjoyed by everyone. What are your thoughts on Lightyear, and where does it rank among other Pixar films for you?

The rise of the tv anti-hero in the early 2000s paved the way for some of the best and most iconic tv series of all-time. Through characters like Tony Soprano, Dexter, Walter White, and so many others, audiences were treated to complex stories about ruthlessly flawed individuals fighting even scarier villains, giving their all not necessarily in the name of justice, but far more sinister desires and urges. Antiheroes continue to be popular well into the streaming era, with characters like Loki and Billy Butcher digging ever deeper into the depths of vigilantism and revenge. Who’s your favorite tv antihero?

We are halfway through Season 4 of The Boys, and it’s been pretty good so far. However, what is your favorite season of the Prime Video show? I think Seasons 1 and 2 are very good, but Season 3 was great, and it is my favorite thus far. There were so many good episodes, like “The Only Man in the Sky,” “Glorious Five Year Plan,” and “Herogasm,” which is my personal favorite in the show. The Boys will end after Season 5, so we only have a season and a half of the show left. It’s sad, but I think it’s best to leave things on a high note, which they hopefully will. What is your favorite? Do you enjoy Seasons 1 and 2, which had a fantastic finale in each, or do you prefer seeing Soldier Boy, who was such a big part of the third season? I think the fourth outing has some work to do before it’s seen as great as the first three, but anything is possible, especially after the fourth episode, “Wisdom of the Ages.”
