A new PV trailer has been released for My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next, which previews the anime film’s main theme song “Homunculus” by Vaundy. The film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on August 2, 2024.
Tensai Okamura (Darker Than Black, Wolf’s Rain, Blue Exorcist, Kuromukuro) is directing the film, with Kenji Nagasaki (director of the previous movies and TV series’ first three seasons, current chief director of TV series) as animation advisor, Yosuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia series screenwriter, previous movies’ scriptwriter) as scriptwriter, and Yuki Hayashi (returning) as music composer. Bones is in charge of the animation production.
The main voice cast from the main TV anime series are all reprising their roles for the film.
My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next is the fourth anime film in the franchise. The previous My Hero Academia films were 2018’s Two Heroes, 2019’s Heroes Rising, and 2021’s World Heroes’ Mission.
The My Hero Academia TV series first premiered in 2016 and has been currently airing its seventh season since May 4, 2024.
The anime is based on the superhero manga series by Kohei Horikoshi, which began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on July 7, 2014. The manga series has released 40 tankobon volumes as of April 2024, with a 41st volume due out on August 2, 2024.
VIZ Media releases the manga in English, which describes the synopsis as:
Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny…
