Comedian Richard Gadd has adapted his acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe show Baby Reindeer into an eight part drama for Netflix, here’s the trailer.
Richard Gadd is a comedian who specializes in storytelling – his previous shows include the award winning Monkey See, Monkey Do, Waiting For Gaddot and Breaking Gadd.
His last show was Baby Reindeer, which opened at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019. Word of mouth spread and it quickly sold out it’s run, won the Scotsman Fringe First Award for New Writing and a Stage Award for Acting Excellence. and transferred to the Bush Theatre in London. It was scheduled to transfer to the West End before being cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.
The show consisted of Gadd telling the story of how a single act of kindness turned into a nightmare, as the woman he helped began stalking him. Turning up at every gig, incessant emails and messages, and insidiously inserting herself into his life, Gadd paints a horrifying picture of isolation, depression and desperation. It was an astonishingly powerful show, and now Gadd has adapted it into an eight part drama for Netflix.
He previously wrote an episode of Sex Education and starred opposite Daniel Mays in the BAFTA-nominated BBC2 single drama Against The Law.
The official synopsis reads as follows:
Baby Reindeer follows struggling comedian Donny Dunn’s (Richard Gadd) warped relationship with his female stalker Martha (Jessica Gunning) and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deeply buried trauma.
The cast also includes Danny Kirrane as Gino, Nava Mau as Teri, Hugh Coles, Tom Goodman-Hill, Jamie Michie and Chloe Driver.
Gadd wrote the series, with episodes directed by Weronika Tofilska, Josephine Bornebusch and Jon Brittain.
All eight episodes of Baby Reindeer will stream on Netflix from 11th April.
