Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions recently dropped an electrifying Red Band trailer of post-apocalyptic action flick, Boy Kills World. The five-minute sneak peek was earlier premiered during WonderCon in March and left fans buzzing with excitement over its insanity. With its bloody action and unpredictable twists, the film promises to be a wild experience on the big screen. Helmed by director Moritz Mohr and produced by Sam Raimi, Boy Kills World features Bill Skarsgard in the titular role alongside Jessica Rothe as June 27 and H Jon Benjamin lends his voice as the narrator inside Boy’s head. Meanwhile, in the red band trailer, Skarsgard’s character goes on a killing spree in a violent yet darkly humorous way. Interestingly, the movie premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and it garnered highly positive reviews from audiences.
The story revolves around Skarsgard’s character, who faces challenges after losing his family to the cruel leader, Hilda Van Der Koy. After he becomes deaf, mute and an orphan, Boy is trained under a mysterious mentor, who teaches him martial arts to seek justice. Alongside his journey, he joins a rebel group to fight against the organisation, using his new set of skills. Throughout his journey, Boy is haunted by the spirit of his sister Mina, played by Quinn Copeland and guided by an inner voice inspired by his beloved video game.
In an earlier interview with Total Film, Boy Kills World director Moritz Mohr said that the film is inspired by kung fu movies, anime and Saturday morning cartoons. Talking about his inspiration, Mohr explained, “We talked a lot about what we loved. I love old kung-fu movies. I love Asian cinema. I play a lot of video games and I read a lot of manga. Anime is a big influence. But also shitty little Saturday morning cartoons that I loved growing up. I knew I wanted to make a revenge movie with a deaf protagonist, but that was literally the one constant.”
Alongside Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Rothe and Quinn Copeland, Boy Kills World also features talented actors including Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley and Famke Janssen. The movie is set to hit theaters on April 26.
In addition to his role in Boy Kills World, Bill Skarsgard has exciting projects, as he is set to star in The Crow and Robert Eggers’ adaptation of Nosferatu, alongside Aaron Taylor Johnson and Willem Dafoe.
