Christmas is coming, but perhaps more importantly: Christmas movies are coming.
Tis the season for romance under the mistletoe and the game is starting strong thanks to The Queen of the Christmas Romance, Lacey Chabert. Not only is Chabert starring alongside Kristoffer Polaha in The Christmas Quest for Hallmark, but she is also the star in a new festive flick on Netflix.
In the film, aptly titled Hot Frosty, Chabert plays Kathy, a grieving widow who is trying to reconnect with joy and the Christmas spirit. Things take a turn in a Frosty the Snowman way, after she ties her scarf around the neck of an ice sculpture. The impulsive act leads to a little Christmas magic. Kathy ultimately gets a new perspective on life — and perhaps a new shot at love— when she meets Jack (Schitt’s Creek’s Dustin Milligan), a good-looking stranger who just happens to resemble that ice sculpture.
While the film is definitely a holiday romp, Chabert says there is a slightly more serious undertone than some other Christmas romances. “It’s really funny and light and lovely. But there is also a throughline of a lot of heart, and all of these characters are kind of going through something — whether it’s something more comedic or something more deeply emotionally rooted. I think this movie has a very special tone to it,” the Mississippi native told Netflix.
Hot Frosty isn’t the only Christmas rom-com coming to Netflix this season. Other soon-to-be holiday favorites include Our Little Secret starring Lindsay Lohan, Meet Me Next Christmas with Christina Milian, and The Merry Gentlemen starring Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray.
Hot Frosty premieres on Netflix on November 13, but the trailer is out now. We will meet y’all on the couch in November.
