Summary

  • Deadpool meets Spider-Man in a new Marvel concept trailer that reimagines the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
  • Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man may appear in Deadpool & Wolverine or Avengers: Secret Wars.
  • Garfield’s return as Spider-Man is likely given the success of No Way Home.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool crosses over into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 through a new Marvel Cinematic Universe concept trailer, showing what a team-up between him and Andrew Garfield’s web-slinger could have been like in the film. It has been almost three years since Garfield joined the MCU timeline via the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast, where he got to share the screen with other live-action Spider-Men. Garfield’s appearance allowed him to get his biggest adventure yet as Spider-Man, especially after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.

Even though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made over $700 million dollars at the worldwide box office, Garfield’s Marvel sequel was poorly received, and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 never happened in the long run. However, graphic designer and video editor Julian Bell shared a new Marvel trailer where the ending gets modified to include Reynolds as Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, reconfiguring the sequel to explore a unique and surreal theoretical plot scenario.

The scene that is being used in this edited version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the final moment of Garfield’s sequel, where he resumes being the web-slinger after Gwen Stacy’s death. The story of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ends with Peter battling the Rhino, following their initial conflict earlier in the film.

Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was overstuffed, but it was not a bad movie, as the film got some Peter Parker fundamentals right.

How Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man Could Team-Up With Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool

Ever since his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU audience has been eagerly hoping for Garfield to reprise his version of the Marvel icon in future Marvel Studios projects. One possibility that could happen as early as this summer is if Garfield was somehow part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast. With the multiverse being a central plot element in the film, Deadpool & Wolverine would be a natural movie for Garfield’s Spider-Man to show up in, even for just a cameo.

A brief cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine could also be used to show what Garfield’s Spider-Man has been up to ever since he got sent back to his world after Spider-Man: No Way Home. If not this summer, Garfield’s Spider-Man and Reynolds’ Deadpool could always team-up in Avengers: Secret Wars, as the MCU gets to the end of The Multiverse Saga. That could also be a fun way to have Reynolds’ Deadpool meet Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s versions of Spider-Man, while also crossing paths with Garfield’s variant.

Based on Deadpool & Wolverine‘s popular reception even prior to release, Reynolds’ Deadpool is more likely than not going to re-emerge sooner rather than later. Given the big success with Spider-Man: No Way Home, it would be shocking if Marvel Studios, along with Sony Pictures, hadn’t already locked Garfield in for a new deal to return as Spider-Man. But for now, time will tell how much deeper the MCU will go into the multiverse when the franchise gets towards the end of Phase 6.
