“It’s tense, fast.” “It’s sensory overload.” “Real gunfire.” “Explosions – not just one, multiple takes.” A24 has revealed a brand new “inside look” promo trailer for Warfare, the realistic Iraq War action movie. Set for release in theaters starting in early April – just like Civil War last year. Warfare is actually co-directed by Alex Garland and the real life Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, telling his own stories (from memory) of what it was like to be there. A member of SEAL Team 5, Mendoza came to partner with Garland on Warfare after serving as his military supervisor on Civil War. The movie’s cast features: D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Evan Holtzman, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Henrique Zaga, Michael Gandolfini, Joesph Quinn, and Charles Melton. This featurette video also discusses “the heart of the film” – Ray’s motivation for telling this story, the cast’s immersive experience (including boot camp training sessions), and the filmmakers’ unwavering commitment to authenticity in every frame. Based on ex-Navy Seal Ray Mendoza’s real-life experiences as a soldier during the Iraq War. Mendoza joined the Navy in 1997 and served for over 16 years as a Member of SEAL Team 5 and a Land Warfare Training Detachment and BUD/s instructor. He was awarded a Silver Star ‘for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Lead Communicator, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit-Ramadi, in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on November 19, 2006.’ Warfare is co-written and co-directed by filmmakers Alex Garland & Ray Mendoza. Mendoza was the military advisor on Civil War. Garland has directed the films Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, and Civil War previously.
