Since Barbarian put the fear of weirdness into us all about AirBnBs, what are we to do for holiday ideas? Surely agreeing to stay with the seemingly charming couple you met while travelling is a good idea, right? If new horror movie Speak No Evil (and, you know, common sense) is to be believed… absolutely not. Check out the first trailer:
The Woman In Black‘s James Watkins is the writer/director here, with Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis (Halt And Catch Fire reunion klaxon!) as Americans Louise and Ben Dalton, holidaying with daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler). They meet Paddy (James McAvoy), his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) and their furtive, mute son Ant (Dan Hough) and seem to hit it off. Paddy invites them to stay at his and Ciara’s house, and Louise and Ben eagerly accept. But after they arrive at the isolated, definitely not-creepy-at-all farmhouse, things soon turn a lot darker. What secrets is Paddy hiding? And why is he so eager for his guests not to leave?
A Blumhouse offering, this is a remake of chilling 2022 Danish horror Gæsterne, directed by Christian Tafdrup from the script he wrote with Mads Tafdrup, because company boss Jason Blum fell in love with the original.
Speak No Evil will be in cinemas on 13 September.
