“One day, would you like to live in a different town, different home?” Cohen Media Group has unveiled a brand new official US trailer for Nowhere Special, an indie drama made by Uberto Pasolini. This film originally premiered in 2020 at the Venice Film Festival and ended up opening in most of Europe in 2021 already. It also played at the Zurich, Hamburg, Warsaw, and Istanbul Film Festivals, among others, and is finally getting an actual US release later in April. A single father is forced into a heartbreaking situation in this moving film. James Norton stars as John, a window cleaner who has dedicated his life to raising his 4-year-old son, Michael, whose mother abandoned him. When John is diagnosed with terminal cancer, with a prognosis of only a few months left to live, he searches for a new family for his son ahead of his passing. He struggles with the decisions he has to make and how to determine what the best choice is for his son. This also stars Daniel Lamont as Michael, with Carol Moore, Valene Kane, Keith McErlean, Eileen O’Higgins, & Laura Hughes. This reminds me of Grace is Gone, and looks as heart-wrenching to watch.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Uberto Pasolini’s Nowhere Special, direct from YouTube:
James Norton stars as John, a 35-year-old window cleaner, who has dedicated his life to bringing up his 4-year-old son, Michael (played by Daniel Lamont), after the child’s mother left them soon after giving birth. When John is given only a few months left to live, he attempts to find a perfect family for Michael, determined to shield him from the terrible reality of the situation. Although initially certain of what he is looking for in the perfect family, John gradually abandons his early convictions, overwhelmed by doubts about the decision. How can he judge a family from a brief encounter? And does he know his own child well enough to make this choice for him? As John struggles to find the right answer to his impossible task, he comes to accept the help of a young social worker, opening himself to solutions he would never have considered. And he finally comes to accept his anger at the injustice of his destiny and the situation, the need to share the truth with his son, and to follow the child’s instincts on the biggest decision of their lives.
Nowhere Special is written and directed by Italian producer / filmmaker Uberto Pasolini, director of the films Machan and Still Life previously, and a producer on many others including The Full Monty and Bel Ami. Produced by Cristian Nicolescu, Uberto Pasolini, Roberto Sessa. This initially premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival a few years ago, and it already opened in the UK back in 2021. Cohen Media Group will debut Pasolini’s Nowhere Special in select US theaters starting April 26th, 2024 this spring. Interested?
