Dalia and the Red Book (Dalia y el libro rojo), a mixed-media feature film that we first profiled in 2017, has now been completed and premiered earlier this month at the Sitges film festival.
Written and directed by Argentinian filmmaker David Bisbano (A Mouse Tale), Dalia tells the story of a girl who becomes entrapped in her deceased father’s unfinished novel and must finish the book, as she comes face to face with the book’s characters who have taken over the plot and are trying to become central characters. The film, which the producers describe as “The NeverEnding Story meets Corpse Bride and ParaNorman,” is made with a mix of techniques that include stop motion, cg, and hand-drawn animation.
The trailer for the 106-minute film can be viewed below:
Dalia and The Red Book was produced by Argentine companies Vista Sur Films, Mi Perro Producciones, and Filmsharks, and co-produced by Golem Studio (Peru), Cine 2 (Brazil), Doce (Spain), Mr. Miyagi (Spain), Matte CG (Ecuador), and Signos Studio (Colombia).
Dalia is scheduled to be released in Spain and Argentina this weekend, Peru on October 31, and Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Carribean region on November 7. Disney’s Star Distribution is set to release theatrically in Brazil and other Latam territories in December, with regional Disney+ distribution to come later.
The producers confirm that other territories have already been sold including Germany, Russia, Taiwan, Singapore, and Portugal. They are in discussion for other major territories including Mexico, France, U.K., U.S., South Korea, and China.
