Macedonian Zombies Dark Thriller Film ‘Beyond the Wasteland’ Trailer

“You are not ready to see what’s out there.” Well Go USA has debuted an official trailer for a dark thriller film called Beyond the Wasteland, made by filmmaker Vardan Tozija, originally titled just M during its festival premiere. This film comes from Macedonia and is a new take on a post-apocalyptic future – though it’s really just another zombie movie. Not to be confused with another doc also called Beyond the Wasteland that is about Mad Max fans, this is a gritty horror feature instead. In a world ravaged by a deadly virus, a young boy is faced with losing everything as he journeys through a shattered world, shrouded in silence and overtaken by the infected and the conflict-torn remnants of humanity. The indie film stars Matej Sivakov, Sashko Kocev, Aleksandar Nicovski, Kamka Tocinovski, Bojana Gregoric Vejzovic, and Verica Nedeska. It won an award at the Sofia Film Festival for the “remarkable work with the child actors in the anti-utopian fairy tale.” It seems to be yet another another leftover pandemic movie about believing in hope in a dark & careless world (full of mindless zombies), which seems to still be extremely relevant these days.

Deep in a secluded forest, Marko lives in isolation under the watchful eye of his overprotective father, who is determined to keep his young son safe from the Evil Ones. Deeply lonely, and increasingly curious about the outside world, Marko yearns to uncover the secrets of life beyond the forest and begins venturing further from home. But after a cruel turn of events grants his wish sooner than he ever imagined, Marko is forced to flee and embark upon a grim journey filled with unknown dangers and a glimpse into a world forever changed. Beyond the Wasteland, also known as M, is directed by Macedonian filmmaker Vardan Tozija, director of the film Amok previously, plus other shorts and “Prespav” and “Radius” series recently. The screenplay is by Darijan Pejovski and Vardan Tozija. Produced by Darko Popov and Tozija. This initially premiered at the 2023 Cinedays Skopje Film Festival in Macedonia.
