Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman are back in My Spy: The Eternal City, and here’s the trailer for the film.
My Spy was a fun family comedy that landed on Amazon Prime in 2020 after being delayed by the events of that year. It also made the cover of one of our junior magazines too. It was the third most watched streaming film of the year after Hamilton on Disney+ and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm on Prime Video.
Following in the footsteps of similar ‘tough guy action star does a family comedy’ – a surprisingly crowded subgenre with the likes of Vin Diesel in The Pacifier, Jackie Chan in The Spy Next Door and Hulk Hogan in Mr Nanny – My Spy followed Dave Bautista as CIA operative JJ, who is assigned to keep watch on a family and is soon discovered by their precocious nine year old daughter, Sophie, played by Chloe Coleman. Shenanigans ensue.
The synopsis for sequel My Spy: The Eternal City reads as follows:
When Sophie’s (Coleman) high school choir is selected for an Italian tour culminating in a performance for the Pope in Vatican City, JJ (Bautista) sees this as an opportunity to bond with his new stepdaughter, so he volunteers to help chaperone the group through the Venetian canals, across Florence’s renowned bridges and into Rome’s most historic sites. Instead he finds that he and Sophie have become unwitting pawns in a terrorist plot that could end the world as we know it.
Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal reprise their roles from the first film. New additions to the cast include Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, Flula Borg and Taeho K.
Peter Segal returns to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with retirning writers Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber.
My Spy: The Eternal City will stream om Amazon Prime Video from the 18th July.
