Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for Tyler Perry’s (A Madea Homecoming) upcoming WWII drama The Six Triple Eight (2024), which is set to release in select theaters on December 6 and will be available for streaming on December 20. The film, starring Emmy winner Kerry Washington (Django Unchained), brings to light the untold story of an all-black women’s army corps unit that made history during World War II.

The Six Triple Eight is inspired by the real-life 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only black women’s army corps unit to serve overseas in WWII. Despite enduring discrimination based on both their race and gender, these women successfully completed an essential task—organizing and delivering a massive backlog of mail to U.S. soldiers—while breaking down barriers and serving their nation. Their motto was “No Mail, Low Morale.”

Washington takes on the role of Major Charity Adams, the unit’s commanding officer. She leads a cast that includes Hollywood legends Susan Sarandon (The Fabulous Four), Sam Waterston (Godless), and television host Oprah Winfrey.

The Six Triple Eight is based on United States army historian Kevin M. Hymel’s article “Fighting a Two-Front War,” highlights the courage of the 6888th who took on a crucial task amidst the war. The film promises to shed light on this lesser-known chapter of history when it hits theaters and Netflix later in december.
