A new poster has been released for the feature film Alien: Romulus. Also revealed is that the official trailer for the film will be dropping on Tuesday, June 4.
The poster showcases a facehugger in action as its victim struggles in vain to escape its grasp. From the very start of the movie series, facehuggers have instilled fear in viewers, and the poster teases that they’ll be carrying on that tradition in Alien: Romulus. The red tint further hints at the dark, horror tone that will be given to the film, which comes from 2013’s Evil Dead director Fede Álvarez. The poster can be viewed below.

‘Would’ve Been a Ginormous Hit’: Alien 3 Director Reveals Scrapped Story Plans
Director Renny Harlin explains how his unmade Alien 3 film would have made a killing at the box office.
The movie is set in between the first and second films of the franchise. Álvarez has also spoken about how he looked at both Alien and Aliens for inspiration with Alien: Romulus. As a big fan of both movies, the filmmaker wanted to blend the best of both worlds with the newest installment of the franchise.
“To ask an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question,” said Álvarez. “So I thought, ‘How do I do both?’” he said, per Empire. “There’s a moment where the characters are walking around areas familiar from the Nostromo. Then they cross through that building and on the other side: boom! You’re in a hallway that looks like Hadley’s Hope [from Aliens].”

RETRO REVIEW: Alien Is Still a Near-Perfect Sci-Fi Thrill 45 Years Later
In 2024, Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi horror movie Alien hits its 45th anniversary and proves why it’s an all-time classic.
The director has also shared how Ridley Scott and James Cameron, the respective directors of Alien and Aliens, have been treated to early screenings of Romulus. Both offered the insight they had about the project, which was different from one another, but “super smart” in their own ways. For Álvarez, it was essentially a dream come true to work with both legendary directors on the project.
James Cameron and Ridley Scott Had Different Notes
“[James Cameron’s] seen the movie and loved it. It’s also fascinating because [Cameron and Scott’s] notes and comments are completely different. They wouldn’t repeat a note,” Álvarez explained, per THR. “Whatever Ridley said, Cameron said something different. They were all super smart comments, notes and thoughts on the film and filmmaking, et cetera, but both of them have completely different approaches. So the fantastic part of being able to make this film is to have the chance to work with them.”
Álvarez co-wrote the film with Rodo Sayagues. It stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Alien: Romulus will be released in movie theaters on Aug. 16, 2024.
