Never one to shy away from a juicy role, Saoirse Ronan shines in this trailer for her upcoming movie ‘The Outrun’.
Adapted from the best-selling memoir by Amy Liptrot, ‘The Outrun’ is described as “a searingly honest drama about addiction, survival and the power of nature to restore life and renew hope, set in the wild northern Orkney islands.”
Saoirse Ronan stars as Rona, an alcoholic on a long road of recovery. After a decade away in London, she returns home to the Orkney Islands. “Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery,” the logline reads. “Slowly the beauty and lore of the land enter her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea.”
‘The Outrun’ debuted to critical acclaim at Sundance and the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year and will have its UK premiere as the Opening Night film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August.
It is directed by Nora Fingscheidt (‘System Crasher‘) and also stars Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu (‘I May Destroy You‘), BAFTA winner Stephen Dillane (Alex Rider’) and Saskia Reeves (‘Slow Horses’).
