The movie “It Ends With Us” stars Blake Lively … and New Jersey.
Based on the bestselling 2016 romance novel by Colleen Hoover, the film set up shop not once, but twice in a series of Jersey locations.
Lively and director Justin Baldoni (”Jane the Virgin”), who is also her co-star in the movie, started filming in the spring of 2023. They had to halt production due to picketing related to the Writers Guild of America strike, which began in May 2023 and ended in September.
The Sony Pictures movie commenced filming again after the Screen Actors Guild strike, which started in July and ended in November.
“It Ends with Us,” which is set in Boston, filmed in Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Chatham, Harding, Newark, Parsippany-Troy Hills and Plainfield, spending an estimated $34.2 million in state, the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission tells NJ Advance Media.
Now the “It Ends with Us” trailer (see below) has drawn more than 20 million views.
Hoover’s popular story, adapted for film by Christy Hall, involves romance and domestic violence.
Lively plays Lily Bloom, a woman from Maine who moves to Boston and falls for Ryle Kincaid, a neurosurgeon played by Baldoni.
As she tries to come to terms with Ryle’s violent behavior, which echoes her family’s history with domestic violence, she reunites with Atlas Corrigan, her high school flame, played by North Jersey’s own Brandon Sklenar (”1923″).
In the film, Bloom owns a flower shop called Lily Bloom’s, which occupies some real estate in the trailer.
Jenny Slate also stars as Allysa Kincaid, Ryle’s sister.
Lively, Baldoni and Hoover are all executive producers of the movie, which is due in theaters August 9.
