We finally get to see Shadow the Hedgehog, as voiced by Keanu Reeves, in all his theatrical glory. The new trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 brings the dark and edgy hedgehog to the movie franchise. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles must face off against Shadow. And because he’s just so powerful and cool, Team Sonic turns to an unlikely ally… Dr. Robotnik!

The third film in the franchise was announced in February 2022, but some of the live-action filming was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike (which is different from the 2024 SAG-AFTRA strike). Reeves, who’d been a popular fancast for the Shadow, was revealed to be cast as the character in April of this year.

In addition to Reeves, Ben Schwartz reprises his role as Sonic, with Idris Elba returning as Knuckles and Colleen O’Shaunghnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower. On the live-action end of things, Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik again, with James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles’ adopted parents.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theaters on December 20.
