DreamWorks’ last fully in-house animated film has a new trailer. Take a look at The Wild Robot below:
Original animated films are a rare thing coming from mainstream Hollywood studios these days, which makes DreamWorks’ upcoming The Wild Robot pretty special.
The film follows shipwrecked robot ROZZUM unit 7134 (Roz for short) as it adapts to the harsh surroundings of an uninhabited island, gradually building relationships with the animal inhabitants and adopting an orphaned gosling.

Even in a post-Spider-Verse world, the animation shown off in the trailer looks pretty stunning. More than 20 years after helping cement 3D animation into the industry with Shrek, it seems fitting that what is in many ways DreamWorks’ self-animated swan-song should be similarly boundary-pushing.
That’s because The Wild Robot is the last feature to be fully animated in-house over at DreamWorks Animation, with the Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon studio now focusing on producing the work of other animation houses.
It’s the end of an era for a studio which has produced some of the most critically-acclaimed (and box office-breaking) kids’ animation of the last few years. Last year’s Puss In Boots: The Last Wish clawed at the 2D-3D animation borderline in a way not a million miles from The Wild Robot, while Kung Fu Panda 4 is the second-highest grossing film of 2024 in the UK.
Still, at least DreamWorks seem to be going out with a bang. Featuring a healthily stacked voice cast including Lupita Nyong’o, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu and Mark Hamill, we’re undeniably pretty excited for this one. We could look at this sort of animation for days – if nothing else, it’ll make a lovely screensaver.
The Wild Robot arrives in UK cinemas 18th October.
