Summary
- An Aquaman 3 concept trailer features Timothée Chalamet as the mystery villain facing off against Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry.
- Though 2018’s Aquaman was the highest-grossing DCEU movie, the character will not continue as the franchise is rebooted into the DCU.
- Still, Timothée Chalamet could be a good casting choice for the DCU, possibly as Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing.
An ending for an unrealized Aquaman trilogy in the DCEU has been rendered in a concept trailer featuring Timothée Chalamet as the mystery villain. Aquaman’s DCEU tenure comprised just two solo movies, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom being the DCEU’s swansong movie in December 2023. Now that the DCEU is well and truly dead in the water, Jason Momoa will not return as Arthur Curry – though there is still hope for the beloved actor to return to the DCU in another role.
2018’s
Aquaman
was the DCEU’s highest-grossing movie with a $1.1 billion worldwide box office.
As a tribute to Momoa’s iconic depiction of Aquaman, YouTube creator KH Studio has developed a bombastic, if somewhat bizarre concept trailer for Aquaman 3. The full trailer can be viewed below:
Although this will likely never come to fruition, the trailer it depicts Aquaman coming up against another oceanic threat in the form of Timothée Chalamet, whose “appearance” takes the form of a still image on the backdrop of the ocean. Who Chalamet is supposed to be portraying in the movie is decidedly unclear, but it’s safe to say that his character is unappreciative of Curry’s rule.

Timothée Chalamet Could Still Be A Good Casting Choice For The DCU
Though he never featured in an underwater DCEU adventure, Timothée Chalamet is currently riding a huge wave of popularity in Hollywood. This has unsurprisingly led to a deluge of fan casts for the Dune actor, with one character in particular taking the prize as the most popular casting choice. With James Gunn promising an all-new take on the Bat Family in the upcoming The Brave and the Bold movie – the DCU’s take on Batman – some fans are clamoring for Chalamet to portray Dick Grayson, AKA Nightwing.
Nightwing is the erstwhile sidekick of Batman who relinquished the Robin mantle to go it alone as Nightwing, the charismatic vigilante who co-founded and leads the Teen Titans. With Teen Titans confirmed to be a part of the DCU‘s release slate, Nightwing’s involvement is all but assured. Regardless, whether Chalamet, who closely resembles the character and is the perfect age to portray him, would take on the role is decidedly uncertain.
Chalamet has revealed that he was once advised by Leonardo DiCapriom, “No superhero movies, no hard drugs,” concerning his Hollywood career. Despite this, Chalamet clarified that if the superhero movie in question had a satisfactory director and script, he would still consider it – even going so far as to cite The Dark Knight as inspiration. With that in mind, and the fact that the DCU has a promising future with James Gunn at the helm, there may yet be hope for Chalamet’s superhero career, even if it isn’t part of an Aquaman trilogy.
