Warner Bros. Entertainment released the first trailer for the Watchmen animated movie, which will be split into two parts, with Chapter 1 releasing in 2024, and Chapter 2 releasing in 2025. First announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2023, the animated film has much to live up to, and it’s not the first adaptation of the graphic novel.
The 40-second teaser trailer sees Rorschach, Doctor Manhattan, and Nite Owl investigate a series of hero-related killings, with plenty of explosions, R-rated gore, and a murder mystery that has more far-reaching consequences than they expect. It adapts Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel fairly faithfully, from the plot so far, but it’s seen many adaptations over the years.
Watchmen has been adapted as a live-action HBO TV show, a 2009 film by Zack Snyder (Rebel Moon), and even had a motion animated comic released, and the animated movie is the latest Watchmen project.
Could the Watchmen animated movie deliver an adaptation strong enough to revive the hype behind the franchise? We’ll await its arrival with careful anticipation.
