Netflix Picks Up Three Shudder Horror Movies for Halloween 2025
Picture: Shudder Originals
Over the past few years, for the first time, we’ve seen studios, distributors, and rival streamers reopen — or open for the first time — their licensing taps. Joining that list this week is Shudder, which has just licensed three movies to Netflix in the United States for a limited period and just in time for Halloween.
Our understanding is that this is a one-off deal, but fingers crossed, that means more Shudder titles come to Netflix in the future. These three movies are still on Shudder and will remain on Netflix for at least a year or two in most instances.
What new Shudder movies just hit Netflix? Let’s jump in:
1
Host

- Genre: Horror, Mystery
- Rating: TV-MA
- Release Date: October 9, 2025
- Director: Rob Savage
- Cast: Haley Bishop, Jemma Moore, Emma Louise Webb
- Language: English
- Runtime: 57 min
Host arguably became Shudder’s breakout phenomenon of the pandemic era, shot and edited entirely during lockdown and released just four months after production began in July 2020. Critics hailed it as the definitive quarantine horror film. Set during the height of the lockdown, a group of friends hold a Zoom séance that goes horrifically wrong.
2
Deadstream

- Genre: Comedy, Horror
- Rating: TV-MA
- Release Date: October 9, 2025
- Director: Joseph Winter, Vanessa Winter
- Cast: Joseph Winter, Melanie Stone, Jason K. Wixom
- Language: English
- Runtime: 87 min
Next up is Deadstream, which was first released on Shudder in October 2022 following its initial premiere at South by Southwest, which, according to reports, went incredibly well. The premise of the film follows a disgraced YouTuber who attempts a comeback by livestreaming an overnight stay in a haunted house, but his stunt quickly spirals into a chaotic fight for survival.
Rotten Tomatoes holds a 90%+ score, and horror outlets praised Joseph Winter’s manic physical performance. Unfortunetely, though, if you’re on Netflix’s advertising tier, this movie is currently locked to you, along with 100+ other titles.
3
Christmas Bloody Christmas

- Genre: Comedy, Horror
- Rating: TV-MA
- Release Date: October 9, 2025
- Director: Joe Begos
- Cast: Riley Dandy, Sam Delich, Jonah Ray
- Language: English
- Runtime: 86 min
A record store owner’s Christmas Eve turns into a blood-splattered nightmare when a robotic Santa malfunctions and goes on a killing spree through her small town.
This premiered on Shudder on December 9th and received excellent reviews from critics upon its initial release, though it fared a little worse with audience scores. Among the chorus of strong praise for the movie was Bloody Disgusting, which wrote that the movie is “an unabashed holiday treat that knows exactly what it is and what its audience is hoping to get from a ‘killer robot Santa’ horror film.”
This does mark the first time Shudder Originals have come to Netflix, although we have seen titles go between the services before. Slasher, the horror series first released in 2016, is a good example that released three seasons on Netflix before heading exclusively to Shudder for the two most recent seasons. According to NewonNetflix.info, the only other films that fit the category are Await Further Instructions, produced by Shudder Films and Goldfinch Studios, which appeared on Netflix for a few years between 2019 and 2022, and God’s Own Country, which streamed between 2018 and 2022.
Other new Halloween movies added to Netflix this week include the 2016 indie British horror Prevenge, starring and directed by Alice Lowe, as well as My Friend Dahmer from director Marc Meyers. You can find more of Netflix’s Halloween 2025 slate here.
