It’s been a busy week for Netflix in every sense. Below, we’ll dive into all the latest movies and series to touch down on Netflix US, which includes all the first-of-the-month titles, plus take a look at what’s been trending in the daily top 10s throughout the week.
Lots still to look forward to throughout the remainder of December 2025, and we’re constantly hearing about new movies and series joining the lineup, so stay tuned. Now, onto some highlights!
What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
Brockmire (Seasons 1-4)
Number of episodes: 32
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Sport
Cast: Hank Azaria, Tyrel Jackson Williams, Amanda Peet
Writer: Joel Church-Cooper
Runtime: 30 min
If you’re a fan of AMC’s output, it’s already been like Christmas the last few months. Joining the chorus of titles from the network, Brockmire, the excellent and highly rated comedy that first aired on IFC and headlined by Hank Azaria, just joined Netflix (in full) this week, giving many their first opportunity to watch this underrated gem.
The official synopsis for the series reads, “After a public on-air meltdown, a disgraced pro-baseball announcer tries to resurrect his career by signing on with a minor-league team in a small, rust-belt town.”
Don’t forget there’s a bunch more AMC series to look forward to throughout the remainder of December, including 61st Street and Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale.
The Covenant (2023)
Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Action, Drama, Thriller
Director: Guy Ritchie
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Dar Salim, Sean Sagar
Writer: Guy Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, Marn Davies
Runtime: 123 min / 2h 3m
It’s been a long time since Netflix last carried titles from MGM, and to our great surprise, despite being acquired by rival Prime Video, Netflix has begun adding MGM movies starting in November. One of those new additions is the superb Guy Ritchie film, The Covenant, which hit theaters a couple of years back and arrives on Netflix for the first time today.
The military drama, which is easily one of the better ones in recent years, tracks the bond between US Army Sergeant John Kinley, played by by Jake Gyllenhaal, and his Afghan interpreter, Ahmed, played by Dar Salim. After an ambush leaves Kinley gravely wounded, Ahmed undertakes a near-mythic journey to pull him out of enemy territory. Back home, Kinley discovers that Ahmed and his family were never granted the safe passage they were promised, and the weight of that broken pledge pushes him back into the war zone, determined to rescue them before the Taliban closes in.
It’s a grim affair and Guy Ritchie at his absolute best (until The Gentlemen returns for season 2 next year, that is!).
Jay Kelly (2025)
Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Director: Noah Baumbach
Cast: George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern
Writer: Noah Baumbach, Emily Mortimer
Runtime: 132 min / 2h 12m
We’re over halfway through what we dub as prestige season on the film side of things, with only two major releases of 2025 to go on this side of things: Wake-Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Goodbye June. Before they drop, however, it’s the turn of Noah Baumbach, who brings his fourth movie to Netflix in the form of a star-stacked drama following an actor who is going through a period of reflection alongside his devoted manager, Ron.
In our review, published this morning, we gave the film a three-star rating, concluding that the MVP of the film is Adam Sandler, and wrote:
“Bathed in bright colors and beautiful European countryside vistas & directed with a soft empathy for its subject, Jay Kelly looks back on a life asking for another take. But Baumbach & Mortimer’s script asks for too much as a chronically selfish, unrelatable movie star wonders where it all went wrong and if it was all worth it. Baumbach’s direction and a legion of brilliant acting performances – led by Sandler – will make the experience go down easy, but may not linger much past the credits.”
