Rajkumar Hirani’s Son Vir To Make Bollywood Debut With Hansal Mehta.

Vir Hirani, son of celebrated filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, is set to make his big-screen debut in a high-profile Hindi film produced by Hansal Mehta. The young actor, who gained attention for his 35-minute monologue in Feroz Abbas Khan’s Letters of Suresh last year, will be stepping into Bollywood with a project that has already drawn industry buzz.

The upcoming film, reportedly produced under Mehta’s True Story Films, is scheduled to begin production in February 2026. Malayalam director Lijo Jose Pellissery, known for critically acclaimed films such as Angamaly Diaries (2017) and Jallikattu (2019), will make his Hindi directorial debut with the project. While the female lead is yet to be finalized, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has been confirmed to score the film, promising a rich and immersive audio-visual experience.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, Vir Hirani has already made his mark in digital storytelling. He is currently acting in Pritam Pedro, the first web series by Rajkumar Hirani for JioHotstar, alongside Arshad Warsi and Vikrant Massey. Hansal Mehta’s romantic drama, however, will mark Vir’s official cinematic debut.

Hansal Mehta is producing this venture as one of his flagship projects. Recently, Mehta premiered the biographical series Gandhi at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and is also developing a Netflix business drama featuring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma.

Rajkumar Hirani’s son Vir has directed Return Gift (2013 ) which was screened during the 18th International Children’s Film Festival, India (ICFFI).
