Rashmika Mandanna’s New Movie The Girlfriend Drops Chilling, Reality-Check Trailer
After films like Animal, Rashmika Mandanna is finally taking on a role that will make a major chunk of her fans ecstatic. Thamma saw her enter the supernatural and fictional world, but the trailer for her upcoming film, The Girlfriend, is nothing but a big reality check for everyone.
From one toxic, abusive partner to another, the actress is exploring the genre without actually being typecast. The trailer for her new film is taking things on a whole new level lens that shows such relationships from the female perspective.
Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend is for all struggling women
Directed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend’s trailer offers a small glimpse of what would be a very emotional, real and difficult movie for many women. Almost everyone has experienced toxic relationships in their life, but Rashmika Mandanna’s film offers a female perspective, shedding light to something that has been glamourised for decades now.
The film is not a comedy joyride like Thamma bit something that is instead relatable in a way that would take your ripped heart and teach you how to mend it by yourself. Mandanna’s character Bhooma is stuck in a relationship with her classmate, and she is unable to find an escape, telling herself for the longest time that the toxicity is part of her happiness.
The trailer itself makes it obvious that the film won’t be pulling it’s punches. It would be a raw depiction of how trapping relationships of such a nature can be. The confusion that takes over Bhooma upon facing such a crisis where she wants to be happy but isn’t able to understand why she isn’t.
Rashmika Mandanna is challenging Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s forte
With Kabir Singh and Animal, Sandeep Reddy Vanga created this image of aggressive and toxic boyfriends that somewhat romanticised them. Ironically, Rashmika Mandanna was part of the latter. With The Girlfriend, the film breaks that lens, showing us that the world isn’t covered in a rose-coloured filter of love and romance.

The trailer is mind blowing 🤯
Lots of emotions and questions running through my mind, Rosh. I guess I’ll get the answers on November 7th, and I’ll surely go to see my Rosh’s first female-lead film onscreen 🥹❤️— Aysha Musthaq (@AyshaMusthaq) October 25, 2025

This won’t be a happy-go-lucky film. It won’t leave you feeling nice and content once the credits roll. It would make you sink in your seat and perhaps even feel proud of Bhooma’s strength as she comes to terms with her toxic relationship and how important it is for her to get out of it.
