‘Reacher’s Alan Ritchson Is About to Deliver One of 2026’s Most Relentless Action Movies
This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Alan Ritchson has been on the kind of run where every new project instantly gets clocked by action fans, and Runner feels very much built to keep that momentum going. It has the kind of setup that basically sells itself in one sentence: a brutal time limit, a dangerous delivery, and enemies closing in from every direction. That already would’ve been enough to get attention, but throwing Owen Wilson into the mix gives the whole thing a slightly more unexpected edge. Now the first teaser has finally dropped, and it’s putting that race-against-the-clock hook front and center.
Runner is set to hit theaters on September 11, 2026, and the first teaser was unveiled as part of Angel’s CinemaCon presentation announcing new additions to its 2026 theatrical slate. The film is directed by Scott Waugh, whose previous credits include Need for Speed and Expend4bles. The official synopsis reads:
A former soldier is thrown into a brutal race against time when a critical medical delivery makes him the target of a ruthless cartel. With betrayal closing in from every side, he must survive the chase and deliver his cargo before an innocent child runs out of time.
Waugh summed up the movie by saying, “Partnering with Angel is a game-changer, because Runner is the kind of theatrical film audiences have been waiting for – big action, real heart, and a story that brings light into this world. When everything’s on the line to save a life, real men don’t run from the fire; they drive straight into it.”
Who Stars in ‘Runner’?
The cast is stacked around Ritchson and Wilson too. Alongside them, the film stars Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George, Kate Box, Peta Sergeant, Geraldine Hakewill, Cecilia Toussaint, and Scarlett Crabtree. For Ritchson, Runner looks like another very on-brand swing: muscular, high-concept, and built around endurance under pressure. But the “medic on a bike” angle is a nice twist — a genuine race against time, while doing what he can to save his own life, and someone else’s.
Runner releases in theatres on September 11.
