The 7 Best Fall Movies To Watch Right Now
Is it just me, or is autumn the greatest season of all for cinephiles? I don’t know what it is about movies with a fall foliage backdrop, but there’s something so cozy, festive, and rich about films that embody this particular season.
Every year, when the leaves change colors outside and the October breeze lands upon us, I simply have to watch these movies. It’s practically a tradition at this point. With this in mind, here are the best films that are an absolute must-watch in the fall, that you can stream now.
Here are the best fall movies for film lovers.
When Harry Met Sally — Watch on HBO Max
It should be illegal to create an autumn movie list without including the most beautiful fall foliage film of all, When Harry Met Sally. It’s a gorgeous film by Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron, which explores the realistic pains that come from falling in love with your best friend. Just chef’s kiss rom-com gold at its finest.
Corpse Bride — Watch on Peacock
I have a very strict list of my top 4 favorite films of all time, which I like to imagine myself listing off for those famous Letterboxd interviews. One of these films will always be Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride starring Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp as voice actors. The animation is so gothically thematic and still looks just as gorgeous and impressive in 2025. Meanwhile, the score is utterly heartbreaking, and the storyline will leave you in tears. It’s just, IMO, the perfect Halloween film.
Dead Poets Society — Watch on Disney+
Another perfect autumn film to cozy up with is the 1989 classic Dead Poets Society, starring the late Robin Williams and an adorably young Ethan Hawke in his first big movie role. This film will simultaneously break your heart into a million pieces and motivate you to become the most authentic version of yourself, all at once.
It — Watch on HBO Max
It: Chapter One and It: Chapter Two will haunt you, yet not in the scary, Halloween-ish ways you might expect. When I first saw these films, I was prepared to be terrified, but I was more moved by the longstanding friendships built within the Losers’ Club.
Since it’s originally a Stephen King novel, and King is the master of writing tales that focus on unwavering friendship, you know you’re in for something special when it comes to these movies. One moment you’ll be laughing hysterically at one of Richie’s jokes, and the next you’ll be weeping over Ben and Beverly’s 27-year-long romance. My heart burns there, too!
Edward Scissorhands — Watch on Disney+
Tim Burton is brilliant when it comes to crafting the most original, eccentric stories about monster figures with a heart of gold. No one embodies this trope better than Edward Scissorhands, starring real-life couple at the time, Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.
A goth’s dream movie, if you ask me, and absolutely perfect for spooky season.
Twilight — Watch on Disney+
Alexa, blast “Spotlight” by Mutemath! Whenever I see a single autumn leaf on the ground, I immediately enter my Twilight era, where I have to blast the soundtrack all season long. The first Twilight movie never disappoints, and it’s an annual tradition of mine to watch it every single Fall.
Jennifer’s Body — Watch on Tubi
Megan Fox gives her all to her role as Jennifer Check, the bloodthirsty succubus disguised as a teenage girl. This movie is equal parts horrifying as it is hilarious, thanks to Diablo Cody’s quirky script and Fox’s comedic timing. Just an underrated gem that I have to watch every Halloween season.
