The Best Action Movie of 2025 Sets January 6 Digital Release Date
Predator: Badlands is heading to digital after becoming the highest-grossing entry in the franchise (via What’s on Disney Plus). While the IP has been subject to lukewarm installments after the first movie, Dan Trachtenberg’s third Predator movie broke the series’ box office curse, cementing itself as one of the year’s best action movies.
The movie will arrive on digital on January 6, 2026, becoming available to buy or rent across VOD platforms. Considering the last Predator movie to release in theaters effectively buried the IP in the ground, Trachtenberg has single-handedly steered the IP back to relevancy, with the third movie becoming a huge commercial and critical hit. Following its high budget, however, there are still some doubts regarding its profitability.
Was Predators: Badlands a Success Despite Box Office Milestone?
Although Badlands registered the highest box-office figures for a Predator movie, nabbing $184.2 million throughout its theatrical run (via The Numbers), the high budget has cast doubt surrounding its profitability.
For the unversed, the movie was made on a reported budget of $105 million, roughly $40 million higher than Prey. Following the unspoken box office rule, Badlands would have needed to earn around 2.5× its budget to break even.
On that note, Badlands‘ impressive box office run does leave a lot to be desired. However, given that it marked the IP’s return to the big screen and its PG-13 rating attracted new eyes to the series, the goodwill amassed from this release will likely benefit future entries, which Trachtenberg intends to make.
Predator: Badlands is Expected to Thrive on Streaming
Coming back to its profitability, even though the movie might’ve failed to break even at the box office, don’t expect it to lose money in the long run.

Given that both Prey and Predator: Killers of Killers were immense hits digitally, it’s safe to say the good word of mouth around the new entry will translate to its streaming numbers once it arrives digitally.
With its digital release around the corner, it’s safe to assume home video sales, followed by an eventual streaming drop, will elevate its figures in the upcoming months. Moreover, considering Trachtenberg has effectively changed the consensus surrounding IP, Predator has once again positioned itself as a revered action IP under the Disney umbrella.
