The Liam Neeson Action Sequel No One Wanted Has a New Streaming Home
Liam Neeson’s action thriller, Ice Road: Vengeance, has given fans a new way to catch up with The Ice Road‘s leading man after its lukewarm theatrical run earlier this year. The movie was first released on June 27, 2025, and has now made its way to Netflix.
Ice Road: Vengeance currently has a 17% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and the audience reception isn’t too far ahead either, standing at 28%. Critics have flagged the film’s familiar beats and thin plotting compared to its predecessor, and audiences also did not push the title into mainstream box-office conversation. As a result, the sequel’s theatrical run finished well below typical studio expectations for a star-led action picture. Now the Netflix debut could help the movie find traction with action fans, especially those loyal to Neeson’s long run as cinema’s go-to aging action hero.
In the sequel, Neeson reprises his role as Mike McCann, who once again takes to treacherous icy roads in Nepal when a new mission puts his life on the line. He plans to scatter his late brother’s ashes on Mount Everest, but soon after, his group gets hunted down by mercenaries. The movie is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, who also helmed the first installment. Plot-wise, fans can expect a vengeance-driven story as McCann faces ruthless mercenaries while battling the brutal elements.
‘Ice Road: Vengeance’ Is Already Trending on Prime Video
While Ice Road: Vengeance is gearing up for its Netflix debut, the sequel has already started making waves across the pond. The film is currently trending on Prime Video and stands as #1 in the Top 10 Prime Video movies in the world. The movie has already outperformed several major titles; at the time of writing, Ben Affleck’s The Accountant stands at #10, Mark Wahlberg’s Flight Risk is at #8, and even older Neeson hits like The Commuter fall behind Ice Road: Vengeance.
Interestingly, the streaming success arrives just as Neeson has reminded audiences of his comedic chops in The Naked Gun, which had a theatrical release earlier this year. That film highlighted a different side of the actor and showed that he can still draw crowds outside his usual action genre. Ice Road: Vengeance, on the other hand, proves that even with mixed reviews and a familiar formula, Neeson’s action thrillers continue to find a strong audience once they hit streaming platforms.
Ice Road: Vengeance is currently streaming on Prime Video and is now available on Netflix. Fans can catch up on its prequel, The Ice Road, on HBO Max, Prime Video, and Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates!
