‘The Social Network’ sequel title, release date confirmed. Facebook movie has new Zuckerberg, Oscar winner, Springsteen reunion.
The sequel to the acclaimed Facebook movie “The Social Network” is fully taking shape.
Sony Pictures has announced the title, cast and release date for the movie.
The film, written and directed by “Social Network” screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, is called “The Social Reckoning.”
Actors previously said to be in talks for the cast have now been confirmed.
Oscar winner Mikey Madison (“Anora”) stars alongside Emmy winners Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”) in the movie. They will be joined by actor-comedian Bill Burr.
“The Social Reckoning” is headed to theaters Oct. 9, 2026.

Sorkin won his first Oscar for best adapted screenplay in 2011 for “The Social Network,” which was directed by David Fincher
That movie starred East Brunswick’s Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a role that earned him his first Oscar nomination.
This time around, Jeremy Strong is playing Zuckerberg, who is currently the CEO of Meta.

“The Social Reckoning” reunites Strong with Jeremy Allen White after the two co-starred in the Bruce Springsteen movie “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” with White playing a young Springsteen and Strong playing his manager, Jon Landau.
Madison had her breakout role as sex worker Anora “Ani” Mikheeva in “Anora,” directed by New Jersey’s Sean Baker, for which she won the 2025 Academy Award for best actress.
She was reported to be among the cast of the next Facebook movie in July alongside White, who has won two Emmys for playing Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the FX/Hulu series “The Bear.”
Strong had his breakout role playing Kendall Roy in HBO’s “Succession,” for which he won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in 2020. He went on to play Donald Trump mentor Roy Cohn opposite Sebastian Stan as Trump in the 2024 movie “The Apprentice,” for which he was nominated for his first Oscar.

Sorkin based “The Social Reckoning” on Jeff Horwitz’s “The Facebook Files,” a series of stories published in The Wall Street Journal in 2021.
The July reports from Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, linked White to the role of Horwitz, the Journal reporter. Horwitz, who now works for Reuters, went on to write the book “Broken Code: Inside Facebook and the Fight to Expose Its Harmful Secrets,” published in 2023.

Madison was linked to the role of Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. Haugen, who said Facebook put profits over public safety, worked as a data engineer at Facebook and shared information with the Journal and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“The Social Network,” which was based on “The Accidental Billionaires,” a 2009 book by Ben Mezrich, grossed more than $224 million worldwide and was nominated for best picture and director at the Oscars.
The movie, which also starred Andrew Garfield, Max Minghella, Armie Hammer, Rooney Mara, Rashida Jones, Justin Timberlake, Brenda Song and Dakota Johnson, won the Academy Awards for best score for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails and best film editing for Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter.
