This Connecticut movie star returned for a hometown screening of her new movie
Film and television star Allison Williams returned to her roots this past Saturday for a screening of her new movie at her hometown theater.
Williams, a daughter of Connecticut – she was born in Hartford, raised in New Canaan and studied English at Yale University – attended a screening of “Regretting You” at The Playhouse theater in New Canaan, where she was accompanied by her husband, actor Alexander Dreymon, and her mother-in-law.
In the film, which is based on a Colleen Hoover novel of the same name, Williams plays a grieving mother whose husband’s death in a car crash brought to light a yearslong affair with a shared childhood friend.
“We were so thrilled to have New Canaan’s own (Alisson Williams) with us for a screening of (Regretting You) last night at The Playhouse!,” Cinema Lab Theaters, the owner of The Playhouse, wrote on Facebook. “The film is playing now. Grab your tickets if you haven’t seen it yet.”
The Playhouse did not immediately respond to a request for comment for this story.
“Regretting You”, which debuted in theaters nationwide on Oct. 24, has been largely panned by critics, according to review aggregator Metacritic. The New York Times wrote that the film was “formulaic and predictable, with goofy writing and clumsy editing,” and The Hollywood Reporter described it as a “tonally erratic chore.”
Williams ascended to stardom in the early 2010s for her role as Marnie Michaels on the hit HBO comedy series “Girls,” before making her big screen debut in the acclaimed 2017 psychological horror film “Get Out,” playing the sinister Rose Armitage as the girlfriend of Daniel Kaluuya’s Chris Washington.
She has also starred in and produced the horror films “M3GAN” (pronounced Megan) and its sequel “M3GAN 2.0.”
