Trailer for best-selling book adaptation deemed ’10/10’ as fans say same thing | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Freida McFadden’s book The Housemaid gained a lot of attention when it was first released in 2022. Known as her most famous thriller to date, fans were absolutely thrilled when they discovered The Housemaid was being made into a movie — but as with all book adaptations, people were worried it wouldn’t do it justice.
The trailer was finally released last month ahead of the movie’s debut on the big-screen in December of this year, and it’s certainly got fans talking.
Sydney Sweeney is taking on the role of Millie Calloway, a housemaid with a troubled past. Amanda Seyfriend is playing Nina Winchester, while Brandon Sklenar is playing Andrew Winchester. Michele Morrone has taken on the role of Enzo. All of the core characters feature in the trailer, which has been highly praised as one that hasn’t actually given anything away.
The trailer, quite frankly, looks more like a horror than a thriller upon first glance, and coming from somebody who has read the book, if I hadn’t it I’d probably be thinking it was too much for me!
But my opinion, among others, is that it was the perfect trailer for the film, and it seems like it will absolutely live up to expectations; fans flocked to YouTube to share their thoughts as the trailer hit the platform.
One user wrote: “I’ve read the book, this trailer should win awards for not revealing anything at all, how all trailers should be. This is going to be soooooo good. Cannot wait!”
Another wrote: “The Housemaid comes out Dec 19, if I’m not seated in the theatre by December 20 somebody catching HEAT because that trailer? 10/10.”
A third added: “Now that is a trailer. No necessary plot reveal and you’ll just keep guessing. The right amount of clips.” While a fourth said: “The attention to detail! As someone who has read the book, this trailer does justice. Nina’s hair, the attic and mini fridge, and white clothes and everything. Super excited!”
