Actor Jeff Daniels is thinking back upon his starring role in the cult classic horror film Arachnophobia. Released in 1990, the film starred Daniels as a man whose town is preyed upon by deadly spiders, culminating with a final battle with a gigantic spider in the end.
Recently, Daniels participated in a new interview with Screen Rant to promote his new Netflix movie, A Man in Full. He was asked about Arachnophobia, which has a remake in the works from producer James Wan. As of now, it doesn’t seem likely that there will be a cameo from Daniels, who said that nobody from the production has reached out to him. With that said, he has fond memories of working on the original movie, which he says he wouldn’t have done if it were snakes instead of spiders.
10 Reasons Hereditary Is Still A Modern Horror Masterpiece
Hereditary was released by A24 six years ago and the Toni Collette led-film helped to change to horror genre.
“No one’s talked to me [about Wan’s remake], but I enjoyed doing it,” Daniels said. “I’m glad it was spiders and not snakes, I couldn’t have handled it, I’d still be in therapy if it was snakes. [Chuckles] All I remember is the last two weeks of that shoot, where we said goodbye to John Goodman, and everybody clapped, and then there were two weeks left of shooting with just me and that huge spider in the basement. My costar was that spider, as big as my hand that could rear up and hiss. They would put a rat in its cage on Friday to feed it, and then they would take out the tail on Monday.”
What’s the Status of the Arachnophobia Remake?
The Arachnophobia remake has been very slowly gestating. It was announced in 2018 that James Wan would produce a remake, and it was later reported in 2022 that Christopher Landon would be directing. It was also reported that original director Frank Marshall would be executive producing the few film, while Wan was co-producing with Michael Clear. Landon said early in 2023 that the project was nearing a start of production, though there haven’t been any major updates on the movie since.
20 Most Disturbing Deaths In Horror Movies, Ranked
While horror films revel in terror and dread, some scary movies feature disturbing deaths that stick with the viewer even after the credits roll.
“I’m hoping it should be my next film. We’re getting super close,” he said, per DiscussingFilm. “The script’s done. I’ve been working on that for a while now. So now it’s just really about getting it together. I met a spider wrangler the other day, so that’s a good sign.”
Jeff Daniels’ new film, A Man in Full, premieres on Netflix on May 2, 2024.
