Austin Butler is keeping himself busy following his role in Dune: Part Two as he is set to star in Darren Aronofsky’s new film, Caught Stealing.
Deadline reports that Sony Pictures just acquired the rights for Academy Award nominee Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming project, the crime thriller Caught Stealing. Tom Hardy and Austin Butler join Jodie Comer and Norman Reedus in the motorcycle movie The Bikeriders.
“I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers,” said Oscar-nominated director Aronofsky in a statement. His previous projects The Whale, Requiem for a Dream, and Black Swan.
“Darren is one of the most brilliant audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these wonderful books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star was too exciting an opportunity to not be a part of,” said Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group.
The film will follow Henry “Hank” Thompson, a former baseball player as he is thrown into the criminal underworld of the ’90s in New York City. The book series includes three books, with Six Bad Things released in 2005, and A Dangerous Man in 2006. The script will be written by author Charlie Huston with Protozoa producing.

Austin Butler’s Upcoming Projects Sound Exciting
Austin Butler’s breakout role was in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, although the actor had his start in teen sitcoms and television. The same year, Butler was cast as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis. The actor received critical acclaim for his role, as well as praise from the Presley family. He also got an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Coincidentally, he lost to Brendan Fraser for The Whale, which was Aronofsky’s last film.
He most recently starred in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, where he played the antagonist Feyd-Rautha. To prepare for the role, Butler revealed recently that Gary Oldman and Heath Ledger motivated him for the role. He also explained that he improvised the moment where his character kisses his uncle, played by Stellan Skarsgård. Aside from Dune: Part Two, in 2024, Butler already appeared in more productions, having a lead role in the Apple TV+ war drama miniseries Masters of the Air, a companion to 2001’s Band of Brothers and 2010’s The Pacific.
Butler has more roles coming up, besides Darren Aronofsky’s new film. He is currently filming for Ari Aster’s upcoming A24 film, the star-studded Eddington, as well as The Bikeriders, a 1960s film following the rise of a motorcycle club in Chicago. Butler stars alongside Venom‘s Tom Hardy, Free Guy‘s Jodie Comer, Man of Steel‘s Michael Shannon, and The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus.
There is no official release date for the upcoming Caught Stealing adaptation at the time of publishing, but Dune: Part Two is currently in theaters, with Masters of the Air streaming on Apple TV+.
