‘Back In Action’ Dethroned By A New Movie In Netflix’s Top 10 List

February 4, 20253 Mins Read

Well, it spent nearly a month on top of Netflix’s Top 10 list, no small feat for a single movie, and now Back In Action has finally been dethroned by a new film. And not a Netflix original.

It seems that some people listened to me when I said they should watch the best horror comedy in years, which is The Menu, and “horror comedy” almost doesn’t do it justice, as the film is so bizarre that it almost defies genre classification. Midsommar with less gore, I’d say, if anything.

As for Back in Action, the film that starred Jamie Foxx and was Cameron Diaz’s first acting role after a decade of retirement performed extremely well on Netflix despite poor critic reviews, and even poor audience reviews, as the film sits at a 27% and 58% respectively using those metrics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film follows Foxx and Diaz as two spies who are pulled back into espionage once their secret identities are exposed, and of course this serves as a double concept for Diaz who is “back in action” herself for this film. The movie is bad, but clearly audiences missed Cameron Diaz and if you see her face on a thumbnail for the first time in a decade, you want to tune in, which is how a movie like this stays on top the Top 10 list for a month.

This does not seem to be a one-and-done for Diaz, who has two upcoming projects in the works. She will appear in Jonah Hill’s Outcome, which will star her, Keanu Reeves, Kaia Gerber, Matt Bomer and Hill himself, among others. She will also return to voice Princess Fiona in Shrek 5.

As for The Menu I definitely recommend it, but it likely will not be for everyone given just how weird it is. It stars two of the currently hottest stars in Hollywood, Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor-Joy, and of course the eternally talented Ralph Fiennes. I don’t really want to say anything else about it, but just watch it.

The rest of the list is less interesting, filled with random licensed films like American Renegades, Fallen and You Me and Dupree, for some reason. Plus kids movies Boss Baby and Minions, as those are always going to be there. I’m not sure how long The Menu will stay on top, but nothing like Back in Action, no doubt. Will Netflix announce a sequel? That would be the next question.
