Murphy plays devoted father and coal merchant Bill Furlong in the movie set in Ireland during Christmas 1985. Bill stumbles upon a number of secrets about the convent in his town, many of them shocking and personal and threatening to upend the life he’s known.
Chernobyl star Emily Watson plays Sister Mary in the film, with additional cast members including Kin‘s Ciaran Hinds and Clare Dunne, plus Game of Thrones actor Michelle Fairley.
Small Things Like These opened the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February, where it received favourable reviews, debuting with an 100% Rotten Tomatoes score (which has since slipped to 83% at the time of writing).
The film is directed by Tim Mielants, who has previously worked with Murphy on Peaky Blinders.

Just this week, it was announced that Murphy will reprise his role of Tommy Shelby in a Peaky Blinders film acquired by Netflix. Production on the anticipated movie will begin later this year, with the big-screen sequel written by show creator Steven Knight.
It’s not the only sequel Murphy is returning for this year.
Last month, the Oppenheimer star was reported to be returning as Jim in the new 28 Days Later movie. The Danny Boyle film is considered Murphy’s breakthrough performance when it was released back in 2002.
There is currently no release date for Small Things Like These.
