Dulqer Salmaan will be back on screen after more than a year with the Telugu film Lucky Baskhar this Deepavali, 31 October.
He is now busy promoting the film across India, especially in South India. At an event in Kerala, the actor reassured his Malayalam fans that, “Nothing has changed, you people have the same energy and love. I don’t feel like I have been away from this industry. Surely there will be Malayalam projects from me very soon.”
His last film was King of Kotha (Malayalam) released in August 2023. While the film had a lot of expectations, it had underperformed.
Soon enough, he confirmed his next projects in Malayalam, “All of my upcoming projects are with the directors you love. I am doing a project with Nahas Hidayath, I am doing a Soubin Shahir directorial, also I will be teaming up with a debutant director whom I admire a lot. I am also planning several other films in Malayalam.”
Nahas Hidayath’s last directorial RDX, was a huge hit, and infact clashed with Dulquer’s King of Kotha.
While there has been criticism against the actor for not doing enough work in Malayalam, Dulquer Salmaan said that he is not intentionally staying away from the Malayalam film industry.
He added: “ My place, my home, my people, my family, my brothers and sisters, my mothers and fathers, if I don’t do a film for all of you, it would be a bad thing that I am doing to my career.”

Year long hiatus
Terming the year-long break as a hiatus, Dulquer in an interview with TV9 said, “Last year, I was able to work on only one film. Perhaps that’s my fault; some films didn’t work out and my health wasn’t that great.”
“We had delays in shooting also due to my health. My director, producer, cast and crew were very supportive. There were days when the team only suggested stopping the shooting and seeing me in pain,” Dulqer said, without divulging details.
Initially set for 27 September and then moved to 7 September, Lucky Baskhar is finally releasing in a week.
Directed by Venky Atluri and starring Dulquer Salmaan, the movie created considerable excitement with its engaging storyline and impressive cast. Meenakshi Chaudhary stars alongside Dulquer Salmaan, with music by GV Prakash Kumar.
Produced by Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya of Sitara Entertainment and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film also benefits from Banglan’s authentic set designs and Nimish Ravi’s cinematography.
It marks Dulquer Salmaan’s third Telugu venture following Mahanati (2018) and Sita Ramam (2022). However, he did a cameo in Kalki 2989 AD (2024).
