Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner has officially found her next project with Netflix in the form of a brand-new Christmas movie titled, Mrs. Claus. This marks Garner’s latest collaboration with the streaming, after previously starring in 2021’s Yes Day, 2022’s The Adam Project and 2023’s Family Switch.

According to Deadline, the Alias vet will be portraying the eponymous role of Mrs. Claus in the upcoming holiday comedy. Further details about Garner’s character or the film’s plot are still being kept under wraps. In addition to starring, Garner has also signed on to produce the project, based on a story idea by Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon. The latter will also be set as a producer through her Hello Sunshine banner. This won’t be the first collaboration between Garner and Witherspoon, as they previously worked together on Apple TV+’s thriller drama series The Last Thing He Told Me.

Mrs. Claus is being written by Leah McKendrick, who’s also currently penning the script for Sony Pictures’ I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. At the moment, the project doesn’t have a director attached to it yet. Besides Garner and Witherspoon, the holiday comedy will also be produced by Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine and Nicole King for Linden Productions. This isn’t the only Christmas comedy that Netflix is currently working on, as the streamer is also producing an original animated movie titled, That Christmas, which will feature Succession star Brian Cox as the voice of Santa Claus.

What’s Next for Jennifer Garner

This coming summer, Garner is slated to reprise her iconic superhero role as Elektra Natchios in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie. She played the fan-favorite assassin in 2003’s Daredevil with Ben Affleck, and its 2005 spin-off Elektra. While doing promotions for Family Switch, Garner initially denied her involvement in the first R-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. However, the film’s latest U.S. copyright listing had indeed confirmed her appearance by including her as part of the cast. At the time of writing, it remained unclear if Garner’s Elektra would have a bigger role in the movie or if she would only make a brief cameo.

Apart from Mrs. Claus and Deadpool vs. Wolverine, Garner is also attached to play one of the lead roles in the upcoming true-crime movie Fruitcake, which will also be led by Emmy winner Paul Walter Hauser. The project is based on the true story of a middle-class Texan couple who embezzled millions from Collin Street Bakery. The 13 Going on 30 star will also be reprising her role as Hannah Hall on The Last Thing He Told Me series, which has just recently been renewed for a second season on Apple TV+.

Garner will return to the big screen on July 26, 2024 for Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine.
