Jessica Alba’s newest action film is the undisputed champion this week on Netflix, taking the top spot away from Richard Linklater’s latest film, Hit Man.
Trigger Warning premiered on Netflix on June 21, and immediately climbed to the top to become the number one movie on the platform. Trigger Warning stars Alba, Anthony Michael Hall, Tone Bell, Mark Webber, Jake Weary, and Gabriel Basso. The official synopsis for the film reads, “A Special Forces commando uncovers a dangerous conspiracy when she returns to her hometown looking for answers into her beloved father’s death.” Helming the movie is Mouly Surya, director of 2017’s Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts, and is written by Josh Olson, John Brancato, and Halley Wegryn.

Trigger Warning bumps Linklater’s quirky new crime comedy out of the top spot, while Dreamworks’ Home comes in at third on Netflix’s Top 10. The film also marks the return to movies for its star, Alba, who hadn’t starred in a film since 2019’s Killers Anonymous. A fixture of 2000s popular entertainment, Alba was once unavoidable in the cinema landscape, starring in films like Fantastic Four, and Sin City. However, her latest effort has been met with harsh reviews thus far. Trigger Warning currently holds a 24% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a dismal 17% audience score.
Upcoming Netflix Movies to Look Forward To
Trigger Warning may top the charts as of now, but Netflix has some exciting projects coming soon that surely will excite their subscribers. Next week, Richard LaGravenese’s new romantic comedy, A Family Affair, will premiere on the platform which stars Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron. LaGravenese is no stranger to creating hits for the rom-com genre, as his film P.S. I Love You crushed at the box office in 2007. Netflix will also host the return of the iconic SpongeBob SquarePants. After facing several delays, Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie will finally be released on the platform in early August.
Probably the most anticipated film for the platform in 2024 will be the return of Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley. Premiering on July 3, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F stars Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Kevin Bacon. It has been thirty years since Murphy played one of his most memorable characters, and will surely bring lots of eyeballs to the platform when the fourth film in the franchise premieres.
