Mark Wahlberg is booked and busy. The actor, who can currently be seen opposite Halle Berry in Netflix’s The Union, has opened up about one of his next movies, Play Dirty, which was co-written and directed by Shane Black.
Speaking with Collider, Wahlberg expressed how excited he was for audiences to see Play Dirty, hyping the upcoming movie as a cross between The Italian Job and Heat. “For me, it’s like The Italian Job meets Heat. It’s got the action, it’s got the high stakes, it’s got the humor, it’s got these great characters, the best Shane Black dialogue,” hyped Wahlberg, adding that he has been waiting “a long time to get a script like that.”

Mark Wahlberg Open to Sequel to 2007 Action Film After Recent Streaming Resurgence
Mark Wahlberg is open to returning for a sequel to his 2007 action thriller.
The actor continued, “Any time we talked about, ‘Okay, what’s the kind of movie you wanna do as an actor if we’re talking a big, giant commercial movie?’ And Lethal Weapon is always right there, and some of the other films that Shane has written, so I couldn’t have been more happy. Hopefully he was as happy as I was with the experience.”
Play Dirty Adapts the Richard Stark Novel The Hunter
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Play Dirty is an adaptation of the 1962 novel, The Hunter, which was written by Donald E. Westlake under his pseudonym Richard Stark. It is the first novel to feature the author’s character, career criminal Parker, who would go on to appear in 24 of the 28 novels Westlake wrote as Richard Stark. The Hunter was previously adapted to film in 1967 as Point Blank, starring Lee Marvin in the lead role.
In Play Dirty, Wahlberg’s Parker gets a shot at a major heist where he must outsmart a South American dictator, the New York mob, and the world’s richest man. Filming on the project occurred earlier this year in Sydney Harbour. Besides Wahlberg, the upcoming crime thriller film stars LaKeith Stanfield, Rosa Salazar, Dermot Mulroney, Tony Shalhoub, Keegan-Michael Key, Nat Wolff, Chukwudi Iwuji, and The Punisher‘s Thomas Jane.

Mark Wahlberg Is Ready to Become The Six Billion Dollar Man
Another upcoming movie for Wahlberg, albeit one that hasn’t begun filming yet, is The Six Billion Dollar Man. An updated take on the beloved 1970s television series, The Six Million Dollar Man, the reboot has struggled to get out of development since it was first announced back in 2014. Despite its production troubles, Wahlberg is confident that the movie will still be made, noting recently that it’s the only superhero role that he is interested in playing on the big screen.
“It’s grounded, and it’s plausible, real,” he said earlier this month. “You know, there is lots of bionics technology and science happening right now. So this is something that has all the wish fulfillment of a superhero, incredible things.”
