The feature adaptation of Hana Khan Carries On from Amazon MGM Studios and Kaling International has found its director.

Fawzia Mirza, whose recent credits include the Hulu series Deli Boys, is set to direct the film that is currently in development, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The project has not yet announced a release date or cast.

Sahar Jahani (Ramy) penned the script that is based on author Uzma Jalaluddin’s 2021 novel of the same name. The film centers on Chicago-based chef and family restaurant owner Hana, who connects with Aydin on an anonymous dating app without realizing that his own family’s culinary empire could lead to her business shutting down.

Mindy Kaling and Jessica Kumai Scott produce for Kaling International.

Mirza was a director on the first season of Hulu’s comedy series Deli Boys, which launched earlier this year. Her feature directorial debut The Queen of My Dreams premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, with Mirza winning the Directors Guild of Canada’s top prize for feature film directing for the project. The Queen of My Dreams, which collected five nominations from the Canadian Screen Academy Awards, hits theaters in the U.S. on Friday.

Additionally, the Obama administration awarded Mirza as a White House Champion of Change in Asian American Storytelling in 2016.

Kaling co-created and serves as executive producer for the Netflix series Running Point that stars Kate Hudson and has been picked up for a second season. She also co-created and executive produced both the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Jahani won a Peabody Award for her work on the first season of Hulu’s Emmy-nominated comedy series Ramy. Her other television credits include Life & Beth, 13 Reasons Why and The Bold Type. Jahani previously adapted Jalaluddin’s first novel, Ayesha At Last, for Amy Pascal and Columbia Pictures, and she is working on her debut novel.

Kaling is represented by CAA, 3Arts and Ziffen Law. Mirza is repped by IAG, Alexander Stegmaier and Granderson Des Rochers. Jahani is repped by IAG, Tantrum and Morris Yorn.
