Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, director of the upcoming movie Star Wars: New Jedi Order, recently spoke about her entry to Star Wars and gave some hints about Rey Skywalker’s return to the screen. There are very few confirmed details about New Jedi Order at this point, other than the fact it has been confirmed and is one of several upcoming Star Wars movies. Most of the recent news surrounding New Jedi Order has been about its release date, as The Mandalorian & Grogu took its place as the next of Lucasfilm’s scheduled releases. Obaid-Chinoy’s comments, however, have finally given a glimpse into the story of New Jedi Order.
While speaking with Stars Sirius XM 109, Obaid-Chinoy hinted that Rey would begin her own Jedi academy, and she mentioned that she had spoken with George Lucas about New Jedi Order.
“…at the heart of it, for me, is Rey Skywalker, is Daisy Ridley and her story and taking her on an adventure to a Jedi academy. And sort of creating a world that is a natural dovetail to the story we’ve seen her go through the last three episodes.”
“I’ve had conversations with J.J. Abrams, and I’ve had conversations with George Lucas and, of course, Dave Filoni, who’s a big part of the Star Wars universe now, we speak very often, and Kathleen Kennedy, and Carrie Beck, and Simon Emanuel.”
The two biggest reveals from Obaid-Chinoy’s interview, that Rey will be “on an adventure to a Jedi academy,” and that Obaid-Chinoy had spoken with George Lucas and other prominent creators at Lucasfilm, are huge developments. Her comments in this interview mark one of the few times Obaid-Chinoy has spoken publicly about New Jedi Order, and the fact that she’s willing to divulge some story details is an extremely promising sign. There have been very few updates about the movie before this point, and this interview could be a sign that New Jedi Order‘s development is progressing smoothly.

Why Daisy Ridley Is Returning To Star Wars Just Five Years After The Rise Of Skywalker
Daisy Ridley’s return to Star Wars is coming only five years after The Rise of Skywalker, begging the question of why her comeback is so soon.
This Is The First Concrete Information We’ve Had About Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie
Until now, New Jedi Order has remained almost entirely a mystery. Daisy Ridley was the only confirmed cast member of the movie, and even the movie’s title hadn’t been confirmed. Ridley has spoken about the script for New Jedi Order and her excitement about playing Rey again, but she never revealed any plot details. With just those few glimpses into the Star Wars movie to work with, many fans began speculating about the film’s plot. Now, however, Obaid-Chinoy has finally revealed some concrete, albeit rather small, details about New Jedi Order that seemingly confirm one of the most popular theories about the movie.
Rey Skywalker
Daughter of a “failed” Palpatine clone, Rey became part of a mysterious phenomenon known as the Force Dyad – a vergence in the Force that bound her to Kylo Ren. Trained by both Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, Rey fought against the First Order as an ally of the Resistance. She ultimately triumphed against Palpatine himself, channelling the full power of all Jedi.
Since New Jedi Order was announced at Star Wars celebration 2023, Lucasfilm has only given a few hints about its plot. It is known that New Jedi Order takes place 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, further into the future of the Star Wars timeline than anything else in canon. Lucasfilm also confirmed that New Jedi Order refers to the name of the era Obaid-Chinoy’s movie takes place in. With that information, fans theorized that Rey would be rebuilding the Jedi Order, as Luke Skywalker tried to do during the New Republic era, which Obaid-Chinoy has seemingly confirmed.
Obaid-Chinoy’s comment that she had spoken to George Lucas and other creatives at Lucasfilm is yet another very encouraging sign for New Jedi Order. It’s a sign that the upcoming Star Wars movie is going to be a collaborative effort, and that the entire company is working together to make it as good as possible. The fact that Obaid-Chinoy has spoken to Lucas also proves how dedicated she is to New Jedi Order, and that she will do anything she can to make sure it’s great. With Rey helming a Jedi academy and George Lucas providing his support, New Jedi Order already sounds exciting.
