Warner Bros. Animation has shared a new look at The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. The upcoming movie is set to be the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to be released in theaters.
Ahead of its premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a new still from The Day the Earth Blew Up has been released, showing Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig hiding inside a house to avoid being spotted by the aliens walking past their front window. The animated film is a spinoff of the popular television series, Looney Tunes Cartoons. Pete Browngardt, who worked on Looney Tunes Cartoons, directed The Day the Earth Blew Up from a screenplay written by Kevin Costello.

Daffy and Porky vs. Aliens… Again
Per the official synopsis, The Day the Earth Blew Up “stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck as unlikely heroes and Earth’s only hope when facing the threat of alien invasion. The movie unfolds a rich Porky & Daffy story that fans have never seen before: In this buddy-comedy of epic proportions, our heroes race to save the world, delivering all the laugh-out-loud gags and vibrant visuals that have made the Looney Tunes so iconic, but on a scope and scale yet to be experienced.”
The upcoming animated film isn’t the first time that Daffy and Porky have come face-to-face with aliens. The comedic duo, as well as the rest of the Looney Tunes, previously faced off against the alien race, the Nerdlucks, in a high-stakes game of basketball in the 1996 live-action/animated sports comedy film, Space Jam. Daffy and Porky were also the stars of the animated series, Duck Dodgers, an early 2000s animated series that reimagined the cast of Looney Tunes as sci-fi heroes and villains, many of whom were parodies of popular characters from Star Trek, Predator, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

What’s the Latest on Coyote vs. Acme?
As previously mentioned, The Day the Earth Blew Up will be the first-ever fully-animated movie based on the Looney Tunes brand to be released in theaters. Usually, theatrically released Looney Tunes movies feature a combination of live-action and animation, like Space Jam, which saw Daffy and Bugs Bunny coming to the real world to entice Michael Jordon to play basketball with them. While the live-action/animated Looney Tunes movies are well-loved, none have received quite as much publicity as Coyote vs. Acme, a completed movie starring Wile E. Coyote and Will Forte that was shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery for tax purposes.
Coyote vs. Acme would have seen Wile E. Coyote finally taking Acme to court, suing the corporation after all of their products had backfired on him spectacularly in his never-ending quest to capture the Road Runner. Eric Bauza voiced Wile E. Coyote, with Will Forte starring as his attorney and John Cena playing the Acme Corporation’s lawyer. Despite a vocal fan campaign to get Coyote vs. Acme sold to another studio for distribution, WBD has so far rejected all offers. As of the time of writing, a final decision on Coyote vs. Acme has not been made.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is expected to be released in theaters before the end of 2024.
