As Marvel fans get some bad news, Predator fans get some great news. Disney has dated the next installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise.
Per Deadline, the officially titled Predator: Badlands will hit theaters on Nov. 7, 2025, taking the release date of Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot, which has been delayed indefinitely. Badlands, which was first announced in February 2024, will be the first Predator movie to receive a theatrical release since 2018’s The Predator. The previous entry, 2022’s Prey, was released straight to Hulu, much to the chagrin of the Predator franchise. Badlands reunites the creative team of Prey, with Dan Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison back as director and screenwriter, respectively.

Panned Predator Sequel Becomes Netflix Hit 6 Years Later
A Predator sequel that underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics has found new success on Netflix.
While plot details remain under wraps for Badlands, which reportedly began filming in August in New Zealand, the movie is said to be set “sometime in the future,” focusing on two sisters who are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions. No cast members have been officially announced for Badlands, although The Great star Elle Fanning was previously reported to be in negotiations for a lead role back in June.
What Does the Future Hold for the Predator Franchise?
Badlands is expected to be the first of many new Predator projects developed in partnership between 20th Century and Trachtenberg. While no future projects have been officially announced yet, a sequel to Prey is reportedly in early development at 20th Century Studios. The 2022 Predator prequel was set in the Northern Great Plains in 1719, following a young Comanche warrior, played by Amber Midthunder, as she tries to save her tribe from a primitive Predator.
Though Midthunder hasn’t signed on for Prey 2 just yet, she has made it clear in past interviews that she’d love to return as Naru. If she does sign on to reprise the role, Prey 2 would make franchise history as being the first installment to bring back a protagonist as the star.

Alien: Romulus Director Down to Direct New Predator Crossover
Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Studios in 2019, the studio has reinvigorated its Alien and Predator franchises, with the latest installments — Alien: Romulus and Prey — being well-received by critics and fans. Romulus, directed by Fede Álvarez from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues, was also a commercial success, grossing over $350 million worldwide. With the Alien and Predator franchises arguably as popular as ever before, the fandoms have wondered if a new crossover movie might be announced. The two titular sci-fi characters previously crossed paths in two poorly received movies — Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).
In August 2024, Álvarez was asked if he would be open to directing a new Alien vs. Predator movie. “Maybe it’s something I have to co-direct with my buddy Dan [Trachtenberg],” the director teased. “Maybe we should do like [Quentin] Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did with [From] Dusk Till Dawn. I’ll direct a half, and he’ll direct another half.”
Predator: Badlands is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 7, 2025.
