Steven Spielberg has certainly stayed busy in recent years and he is not done yet. It has been announced that Spielberg is reuniting with screenwriter David Koepp, responsible for movies such as Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and War of the Worlds for a new film. While not much has been said about the new movie, it may be about UFOs and it has been given a release date of May 15, 2026. Universal Pictures is behind the film and calls it a “new original event film.”
Some of Spielberg’s recent films are The Fabelmans, The Color Purple and West Side Story plus television shows Halo and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory. While many of his newer films received Oscar nominations, they did fare as well in the box office. West Side Story received $76 million against a $100 million budget, while The Fabelmans earned $45 million globally.
The 77-year-old isn’t letting a few letdowns stop him and hopes the upcoming film will do well. Movie theaters seem to be finally getting more patrons after the pandemic closures years ago and people seem excited about heading to the movie this summer, to sit in the crisp A/C and let a new film ease their minds.
In addition to this new movie, Spielberg is staying busy with 15 upcoming projects, according to IMDb. Many of them will be crowd favorites including another Jurassic World film, another Transformers and Gremlins 3. Stay tuned for more announcements on this project and others from Spielberg.
