It’s time for us to get into the month of May and see what’s out there for us at the multiplex and at home on streaming with new movie options.
As we did last month, we’ve broken down what movies are coming out this month that catch our attention. Promising options range from a new action comedy from Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt to the illustrious return of none other than Garfield the cat.
We’ve also got the latest installment in the Mad Max universe, an inspirational swimming movie from Disney and continued adventures from the Planet of the Apes series.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt team up with Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train director David Leitch for an ode to stunt performers via an action comedy set in the world of moviemaking. This one looks like a ton of fun with plenty to satisfy that crowd-pleasing popcorn summer experience.

Filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun’s Sundance sensation finally hits theaters this month in what looks like a fascinating dive into two teenagers grappling with their fandom for a show from their childhood and how it affects them later in life. The trailer alone sold us on what’s to come.

Apes together strong! The fourth installment in the recent Planet of the Apes reboot series sends the timeline hundreds of years into the future as the balance between apes and humans has tilted significantly toward the apes. The first three were great, so we’re expecting big things.

John Krasinski returns to the director’s chair for this family comedy about imaginary friends. Ryan Reynolds stars as his big summer at the movies gets started off with what looks like a fascinating original concept for the whole family.

If you’re into horror, the prequel to the 2008 horror classic The Strangers shows how the nefarious trio at the center of that film came to be. Make sure you don’t watch this alone… or at home.

George Miller’s Mad Max series returns with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Basically, this looks like two more hours of the chaotic beauty of Mad Max: Fury Road, so sign us up yesterday.

Everyone’s favorite lasagna-eating, Monday-hating cartoon cat returns to the big screen, this time voiced by Chris Pratt. Garfield hasn’t been in theaters in nearly two decades, so let’s give everyone’s favorite grumpy, hungry feline a warm welcome back to the movies.
