Romulus Unveils New Look at the Movie’s Xenomorph

A new look at the terrifying Xenomorph for the next Alien movie has been revealed. Set to drop on Aug. 16, Alien: Romulus will see a new crew of colonizers faced with the deadly creature and fighting for survival.

An image of the Xenomorph was shared by USA Today to help promote the upcoming film. It’s the best look yet at the Xenomorph, which will be encountered by the characters upon their exploration of a derelict space station. The movie features a faithful look for the creature, coinciding with how Romulus is set in between the first and second installments of the franchise. The picture can be viewed below.

The Avengers Battle Aliens in New Marvel Crossover Series

Marvel announces its upcoming crossover series, Aliens vs. Avengers by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, which will arrive this summer.

The movie will be embracing practical effects for the creatures, calling back to how things were done with the original films. Star Isabela Merced has commented on the film’s effects and how some of them were pulled off with the Xenomorph. It came down to robots and human actors, and this helped keep the film maintaining the same tone as Alien and Aliens.

“They used a robot for that,” she said, per Collider. “And also, they used a human being, like a really tall person, in the costume and special effects. We had two Xenos on set, at all times, and they were just terrifying.” She added, “It’s very claustrophobic, it’s very dark, and it’s very authentic to the first one. A lot of respect is paid and due to the original.”

‘Let’s Manifest It’: Alien: Romulus Star Wants to Join Another Major Sci-Fi Franchise

After starring in Alien: Romulus, actor Cailee Spaeny has her sights set on joining another major science fiction franchise.

Fede Álvarez is the director of Alien: Romulus, which he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues. Along with Merced, the cast also includes Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), David Jonsson (Rye Lane), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (Tell Me Everything), and Alieen Wu.

Alien Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary

The new film will be seeing its release in 2024, which is the 45th anniversary of the original Alien. It’s also one of multiple upcoming projects for the franchise that are in the works. Simultaneously, Noah Hawley is developing a television series adaptation, and it won’t be directly connected to Alien: Romulus, instead focusing on different characters and storylines. The series is also reportedly a prequel set decades before Alien, while Alien: Romulus is set after. That will mark the first TV series adaptation for the Alien franchise.

Alien: Romulus will be released in theaters on Aug. 16, 2024.
