Scott Derrickson’s new movie The Gorge gets a tease from Anya Taylor-Joy. Derrickson is a director best known for his work on films such as Doctor Strange and The Black Phone. Taylor-Joy has been involved in numerous films and TV shows, including The Queen’s Gambit, The Northman, Split, The Witch, and most recently, as a small role in Dune: Part Two. The actress is about to have the main role in the upcoming franchise film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which releases on May 24.

As per Collider, Taylor-Joy explains why she chose to work on The Gorge, and teases its genre. The actor’s reason for joining the film was twofold. For one, she wanted to get the opportunity to work with would-be co-star Miles Teller. According to Taylor-Joy, they are “good friends” who had been dying to work together for a while. But Taylor-Joy’s more fascinating reason to want to work on The Gorge was due to “the fact that it was semi genre-less in the sense that it was both a love story and an action movie.” Check out Taylor-Joy’s quote below:

Oh, I was really excited to work with Miles [Teller]. We’re all good friends, but we’ve been wanting to work together for a really long time.

What We Know About The Gorge

As Taylor-Joy says, The Gorge is a story that has both romantic and action-packed elements. Taylor-Joy and Teller play two young soldiers who have the intense propensity both to kill and to fall in love with each other. This pair finds romance during a mission wherein they are tasked to protect an ostensibly never-ending gorge. Other than this tease, there is very little known as to further specifics on the plot of The Gorge. Nonetheless, Taylor-Joy’s tease is an interesting one as it gives a hint of how The Gorge will bend and blend both of its genres.

The Gorge’s script is penned by Zach Dean, whose filmography includes work on Fast X and The Tomorrow War. In addition to Teller and Taylor-Joy, the cast of The Gorge includes William Houston, Sigourney Weaver, Samanthan Coughlan, Julianna Kurokawa, Greta Hansen, Adam Scott-Rowley, and Alessandro Garcia. Much like the bulk of the plot of The Gorge, the nature to most of these actors’ characters is unknown.

While more details are still to come for The Gorge, it seems evident that this film will be one of Derrickson’s more daring works thus far. Helming Sinister and The Black Phone, Derrickson is well-known for his horror works, and has dabbled in high-profile action with Doctor Strange. The Gorge sounds different and more intriguing that anything Derrickson has ever done, making this an upcoming film to watch out for.
