Sigourney Weaver will be joining the cast of the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu. The news comes three months after the actor was said to be in talks with Lucasfilm.

Weaver confirmed her involvement in the project during a recent interview with Deadline. “I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day,” the actor said when asked about her current work schedule. “I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest next year,” she added. There is no further information about her role at this time.

The Mandalorian series creator Jon Favreau will direct the film. He will also produce the project alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and chief creative officer Dave Filoni. Although plot details remain under wraps, the movie will be a continuation of the television show and takes place after the third season. Kennedy previously expressed her excitement about the film, saying that she was “really looking forward” to it.

Several Actors Hope To Appear in The Mandalorian & Grogu

While the cast for the movie has not been confirmed, several actors have expressed interest in the film or teased their involvement. Katee Sackhoff recently addressed the possibility of her Bo-Katan Kryze character appearing in The Mandalorian & Grogu, though she would not confirm either way. “Number one, if I knew I wouldn’t tell you,” the actor said. “And if I did tell you, they’d probably kill me,” she continued.

Emily Swallow, who plays The Armorer, the leader of a tribe of Mandalorian warriors, also expressed interest in appearing in the movie but seemed uncertain if she would be asked to return. “There’s always a chance,” the actor explained, before stating that she had not received a call from Lucasfilm yet. Swallow has appeared in nine episodes of The Mandalorian. She also made a appearance in the fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett.

Giancarlo Esposito, who played Moff Gideon in 10 episodes of The Mandalorian, previously said that he would reprise his role if the creative team needed him. “You know, I don’t know anything about that at the present, but I put out there that if they need me I’ll be there,” he said when asked if he would be willing to return to the Star Wars universe.

The actor also shared his admiration for the creative team responsible for the popular Disney+ series. “I love what Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Disney does with Mandalorian – and who knows? There may be a moment where I can swoop down and take over once again,” Esposito added.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
