Christopher Nolan’s next movie just got a friendly neighborhood update!
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland has been cast in Nolan’s upcoming film, which currently holds a July 17, 2026 release date. Details about the film’s story remain unknown but, like his Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer, it will be based on a screenplay written by Nolan and co-produced with his wife Emma Thomas.

MCU fans have another reason to hope for another live-action Spider-Man crossover like No Way Home.
Outside of Holland, the other reported casting for Nolan’s project is Matt Damon, who previously collaborated with the director on Oppenheimer and 2014’s Interstellar. Like Oppenheimer, the film will be produced by Universal, marking Nolan’s second collaboration with the studio after breaking away with longtime collaborator Warner Bros. over their COVID-19 era distribution policies. His J. Robert Oppenheimer biopic ultimately grew into one of 2023’s most acclaimed and financially successful movies, receiving 13 nominations at the Academy Awards and winning seven of them, including a Best Director win for Nolan. Following those major wins, a report also revealed that Oppenheimer earned Nolan a payday of nearly $100 million through a combination of “salary, backend compensation, box-office escalators and a bonus for his twin Academy Awards.”
Spider-Man 4 Is Still in Development
Along with his Marvel Cinematic Universe performances as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Holland’s other recent roles include 2021’s Cherry — which partnered him again with the Russo Brothers — 2022’s Uncharted movie adaptation, and Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. On the state of the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie, Holland revealed that its current script “needs work but the writers are doing a great job. I read it 3 weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down, read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room.”

Invincible: Is Omni-Man Actually Evil?
Invincible’s father, Omni-Man, serves as the main villain for the beginning of Mark Grayson’s story, but the character has a very complex history.
His prior Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, ended with Peter resetting his life after fixing the multiverse with Doctor Strange, getting a new apartment and costume at the cost of the entire world, including his friends MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) forgetting Peter completely. No Way Home also included a brief tie-in with Tom Hardy’s Venom universe, with the final Venomsequel Venom: The Last Dance hitting theaters this week. Other entries in the Sony-exclusive timeline include the critically panned Morbius and Madame Web and the upcoming film Kraven the Hunter, which recently unveiled its opening scene at New York Comic Con.
On Marvel’s animated side, Spider-Man will return in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, an upcoming prequel series set in another Marvel timeline. The titular character will be voiced by Hudson Thames, who previously voiced a different alternate Spider-Man in What If…?‘s first season.
