Steven Spielberg‘s mysterious event movie has landed a new release date.
The film, which boasts an impressive cast including Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Eve Hewson, was due to land on May 15 next year.
However, the project has now been pushed back a month to June 12 to avoid competing against big-hitters Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu, which both release that May.

The Fabelmans director’s movie will take the slot originally held for Everything Everywhere All at Once directors the Daniels’ new film, which is yet to confirm a new release date.
Spielberg’s project is described as a “new original event film”, with Jurassic Park‘s David Koepp writing the screenplay. While the film is said to contain “sci-fi elements”, further plot details remain under wraps for now.
As well as the mystery project, the legendary director is set to produce the anticipated Thursday Murder Club movie, which is based on Richard Osman’s bestselling murder mystery novel.
Opening up about a set visit from Spielberg last year, Osman recalled on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast: “Firstly, he just had that incredible presence. There’s certain people you meet where you go, ‘Oh my god, you’re Steven Spielberg’.

“It was so lovely seeing even the other actors were excited to be around him.”
He added that Spielberg “could not have been nicer”, further sharing: “I was able to say right at the end, ‘Thank you for everything you do and the joy that you’ve brought the world’. I left it at that. I never need to say another word because I just said thank you.
“If you think about how he has entertained us, the joy he’s brought, the stories he’s told us, the tears we’ve shed because of him, it’s nice to be able to stand there, shake his hand and say thank you, so that was nice.”
Steven Spielberg’s untitled new movie will be released in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
